It appears Carlos Condit feels there is some value in making his dominance over Nick Diaz a convincing, at least in the general public’s eyes.
The new UFC interim welterweight champion has accepted the challenge from Diaz for a rematch following his decision victory on Saturday, according to some tweets by the organization’s president Dana White.
There had been reports that Condit had agreed to a second bout against the former Strikeforce welterweight title-holder after the latter was stunned that he came out on the short of the judges’ decision in their five-round battle that headlined UFC 143 in Las Vegas. White confirmed the news late Tuesday night on Twitter (@danawhite).
"The rumor is true. Carlos did accept the fight today," posted White, who also tweeted that Diaz "wanted the rematch the same night" and Condit "wants it."
While no announcement was made as to whether the fight will happen, UFC officials seem to be considering it.
However, it looks like it won't be a reality, based on some comments by Diaz's coach Cesar Gracie.
"Condit vs Diaz or Gsp will not happen this year," tweeted Gracie (@CesarGracieBJJ). "Things are being reconsidered."
Gracie went on to suggest the reason for the "no-go" would be released shortly but it had nothing to do with money.
Following Saturday’s victory, in which Condit won by scores of 49-46 (twice) and 48-47, Diaz said he was done with MMA as he believed his gameplan had Condit on the retreat the whole night.
"(The UFC) pays me well, but not enough for (these judges' decisions)," Diaz said.
